Hack the Prompt Text(Cmd Hacks)

Did you know that the prompt itself in the Command Prompt is completely customizable thanks to the prompt command? It is, and when I say customizable, I mean really customizable.

Instead of C:\>, you can set the prompt to any text you want, have it include the time, the current drive, the Windows version number, you name it.

One useful example is prompt $m$p$g which will show the full path of a mapped drive in the prompt, alongside the drive letter.

You can always execute prompt alone, without options, to return it to its sometimes boring default.

How To Hide Any Drive Through Command Prompt (Cmd Hacks)

Here is an interesting command prompt hack .You can hide, assign, delete etc. disk partition in few steps.

  1. Select Start , then Run , in Run option type cmd. (or  start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt)

  2. In Command Prompt (cmd) type DISKPART

  3. Then type LIST VOLUME, after this you will get an partition  overview, as shown below

  4. Type SELECT VOLUME (number) , press ENTER on keyboard, then type  REMOVE LETTER (letter )as shown below

  5. After this disk partition will be hidden. How to return disk partition? Easy, just type ASSIGN LETTER (letter).

Make Undeletable, Unrenamable Folders(Cmd Hacks)

  1. Click on Start.

  2. Click on Run. Type in “cmd” without quotes.

  3. In the Command Prompt Window that opens, type the name of the drive you wish to create your folder in the format <drive-name>: and press Enter. e.g. If you wish to create the undeletable folder in D drive, type “D:” without the quotes. Note that the folder cannot be created in the root of C:/ drive (if C: is your system drive).

  4. Type this command- “md con\” or “md lpt1\” without the quotes and press Enter. You can choose any of the keywords given above as the name of your folder.

* Note – The basic concept behind this trick is the use of Keywords. Keywords are reserved words in any programming language that cannot be used as names of variables. Windows also uses certain keywords in its programming. Some of them are con, aux, lpt1, lpt2, lpt3, lpt4, lpt5, lpt6, lpt7, lpt8 and lpt9.

Automatically Defragment C: Daily (Cmd Hacks)

schtasks /create /tn "Defrag C" /tr "defrag c: /f" /sc daily /st 23:00:00 /ru "System"
This will set your computer to automatically perform a complete defrag of the C: drive each day at 11:00:00 PM (23:00:00). It does this by creating a scheduled task calledDefrag C. It will run this command under the computer’s system account.

Use Ctrl-C to Abort a Command (Cmd Hacks)

ctrl c Cmd HacksJust about any command can be stopped in its tracks with the abort command: Ctrl-C.

If you haven’t actually executed a command, you can just backspace and erase what you’ve typed, but if you’ve already executed it then you can do a Ctrl-C to stop it.

Warning: Ctrl-C isn’t a magic wand and it can’t undo things that aren’t undoable, like a partially complete format command. However, for things like the dir command that seem to go on forever or questions you’re asked at the prompt that you don’t know the answer to, the abort command is an excellent Command Prompt trick to know.
